jewellery care
Objects age with those who wear them.
MAGATA jewellery is made to be worn and lived with. Over time, precious materials naturally respond to touch, wear and their surroundings.
With a little attention, each piece can retain its beauty and accompany you for years. The following guidelines will help you care for its materials and surfaces.
EVERYDAY CARE
We recommend a few simple precautions to preserve your jewellery:
- Avoid direct contact with perfumes, lotions, oils and household cleaning products.
- Remove jewellery, rings and earrings before swimming, showering, exercising or sleeping. Moisture, swear and friction can affect delicate surfaces, settings and threads.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine, salty water, and highly humid environments
- Store each piece separately in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, ideally in its original pouch or box, to prevent scratches and tangling.
- Gently wipe your jewellery with a soft, dry cloth after wearing.
- Avoid abrasive cleaning products and ultrasonic cleaners.
STERLING SILVER
Sterling silver naturally develops a patina through contact with air, moisture and skin. Its surface may darken over time, particularly in recessed or textured areas. These changes are part of the character of silver, and a natural patina can bring depth and beauty to the piece.
To restore its original brightness, gently polish with a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth.
For occasional deeper cleaning, solid silver pieces without pearls, gemstones or silk can be washed with lukewarm water and a little mild dish soap, using a very soft brush where necessary. Rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with a soft cloth.
Avoid prolonged exposure to saltwater, chlorine and direct sunlight after swimming, as heat, moisture and residues can accelerate tarnishing.
GEMSTONES
Natural gemstones vary in hardness, texture and porosity, and require gentle handling.
Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid soaking, harsh chemicals, sudden temperature changes and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
With regular wear, the knots in between the stones can gradually stretch or weaken. Periodic restringing helps preserve the piece and prevent accidental breakage.
Store gemstone jewellery separately flat and separate to prevent scratching.
PEARLS
Pearls are organic and particularly sensitive to perfumes, cosmetics, acids and excessive moisture.
Put on pearl jewellery after applying perfume and skincare products. After wearing, gently wipe the pearls with a soft, dry cloth.
Avoid soaking or using chemical cleaners, and store pearls separately from harder materials that could scratch their surface.
SILK RIBBONS
Some MAGATA necklaces and bracelets are on silk ribbons. Silk is a natural fibre that requires particular care. Avoid contact with water, perfumes and oils, which may weaken or discolour the thread over time.
Store these pieces flat or loosely arranged.
REPAIRS AND CONTINUED CARE
We believe that objects worth keeping are worth caring for.
MAGATA offers a lifetime repair service to help extend the life of our jewellery. From restringing necklaces, reconnecting opened rings and restoring small components, to professionally repolishing silver surfaces, we aim to keep each piece in use for as long as possible.
Polishing can restore brightness and reduce fine scratches, although deeper marks and changes in texture may remain.
Repairs are assessed individually according to the condition of the piece and the work required. Any applicable repair costs will be communicated in advance. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the customer.

NATURAL WEAR
Over time, jewellery naturally develops signs of wear. Gentle surface changes, fine scratches and oxidation are part of the ageing process and do not, in themselves, indicate a defect.
